PLACE IT IN TIME
SCRIPTURE — Daniel had entered Babylon as a captive and lived long enough to serve under a succeeding kingdom. Daniel 6 carries him under Darius and forward toward Cyrus.
FOLLOW THE CONNECTION
Daniel knew the decree had been signed, yet he continued his established practice of prayer with his windows open toward Jerusalem. He was cast into the lions’ den; God delivered him; and Darius issued a decree concerning the living God.
The visible kingdom had changed. The God Daniel served had not.
LOOK BACK TO JEREMIAH
Daniel 9 then joins Daniel’s generation to Jeremiah’s. Daniel reads the writings and understands the number of years connected with Jerusalem’s desolations. An earlier prophetic word is being read by a man who lived through the kingdom transition.
