A king named before his generation
During Jeroboam's reign, a man of God came from Judah to Bethel and spoke against the altar. The word named Josiah, a future son of the house of David.
Read the two moments together
SCRIPTURE: 1 Kings 13 records the word at Bethel. 2 Kings 23 records Josiah later breaking down the altar and high place, burning bones upon the altar, and recognizing the tomb of the man of God who had proclaimed the earlier word.
The location carries the connection
The research keeps Bethel visible because the later scene returns the reader to the earlier one. The altar built in Jeroboam's generation remains part of the story until Josiah arrives. The connection is not created by placing the passages side by side; the later biblical record itself points back to the earlier proclamation.
