Maccabees — The Sanctuary Is Rededicated

SCRIPTURE — Daniel 8 remains part of the biblical prophetic framework used in this study.

EXPANDED SOURCE — 1 Maccabees 1–4 supplies the narrative of Mattathias, Judas, the conflict, the cleansing of the sanctuary, and its rededication. This material remains visibly separate from Scripture in the project’s source system.

FROM A FAMILY TO A NATIONAL STRUGGLE

EXPANDED SOURCE — The research follows Mattathias and his sons as a family enters the center of the struggle. Before his death, Mattathias charges his sons to remain zealous for the Law. Judas then takes command.

THE STORY RETURNS TO JERUSALEM

EXPANDED SOURCE — Battles and changing rulers surround the period, but the research keeps drawing the reader back to Jerusalem and the sanctuary—the place Babylon had destroyed and Persia had allowed to be rebuilt.

THE TEMPLE IS CLEANSED

EXPANDED SOURCE — Judas and his forces come to Mount Zion and find the sanctuary desolate and the altar profaned. The sanctuary is cleansed, a new altar is built, the lamps are lit, and dedication is celebrated for eight days.

The Temple had been destroyed, rebuilt, profaned, and rededicated. The kingdoms around Jerusalem changed; the sanctuary remained a recurring center of the story.

FOLLOW THE CONNECTION

Babylon destroyed the earlier house. Persia opened the road for rebuilding. Greek-era conflict reached the sanctuary. Now the sanctuary is rededicated. The location itself carries memory from one kingdom to another.
