Israel looks strong again
Jeroboam II reigned from Samaria for forty-one years. Israel recovered territory, and the restoration of the border is connected in the record with the word spoken through Jonah son of Amittai.

SCRIPTURE: 2 Kings 14:23–29 gives Jeroboam II’s reign and the restoration of Israel’s border. Hosea 1 places Hosea in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash. Amos 1 and 7 place Amos in the same broad setting and record the confrontation at Bethel.
Prosperity was not silence
Hosea spoke while the kingdom still appeared prosperous. His family and the names Jezreel, Lo-Ruhamah, and Lo-Ammi became part of the prophetic message.
Amos also spoke in the days of Jeroboam II. At Bethel, Amaziah the priest opposed him and told him to return to Judah. Amos answered that the LORD had taken him from following the flock and sent him to prophesy to Israel.

Strength does not end the story
The throne still looked secure under Jeroboam II. The next generation would show how quickly that appearance could change.
